A sample A/B Test to use as your first experiment
"So, where do I start?" This is a common question when using new tech. Instead of thinking about it from a "What should I use this for?" viewpoint, approach it from a "What could I improve?" or "What could I test?" perspective.
A good place to start is trying to improve the outcome of a business goal such as clicks, purchases, or website metrics. It's best to identify a small change you could make, make a hypothesis of the result, and test it against what's in production. If it's successful, make incremental changes from there. It's not difficult at all to do this, all you need to do is set up a web experiment.
A web experiment lets you conduct controlled, random experiments to improve the outcome of a business goal. You can run two variations of an experience against each other to see which one is more effective at achieving the business goal. Each variation of the experience, is known as a Variant.
Let's say you want to increase conversion and reduce the risk of visitors leaving your site to purchase off a competitor's site. As you already know, visitors often open several tabs in a single session when multitasking or looking for other deals on competitor sites. A good hypothesis is that a flashing browser tab can lure the visitor back to your website by seeking attention without being invasive. This is a great experiment to start off with and is applicable to numerous industries, see the Flashing Browser Tabs for Re-Engagement Blueprint to invoke this experiment.
As your test runs, you can see which Variant is leading on the Performance Analytics screen. Once a winner's declared, you can point all your traffic to the winning Variant.
